Youtube won’t play video but sound plays.?

I have Google chrome. I realised Youtube wouldn’t play videos after a while of working, the screen is black and the progress bar shows but when it disappears it leaves a trail of it (similar to the tail on the mouse if that option is used). The sound plays but no video.

I have deleted the cache and all temp internet files. nothing worked. I started using IE but that never worked, compatibility view did solve the issue for a while but now the videos have stopped working in that mode now. I have no idea what is going on.

Please help :(
After that first answer… Will there be a fix to this coming up or am i stuck with no youtube for months?

This is apparently a BUG in the latest version of Firefox & Chrome, which causes this reaction with Flash and YouTube. It seems that Flash on other sites still works, but not on YouTube.

Seems audio works with this bug, but not video. It’s NOT a problem with not having the latest components, but, ironically, it’s a matter of having the latest, but that the latest have BUGS!

It seems there are a number of workarounds which are not very good, such as clearing then disabling cookies for YouTube (clearing the YouTube cookies only lets one video play before the problem returns) which won’t let you sign in (meaning no access to your own videos or favorite lists), there is disabling hardware acceleration in your video settings (which will slow down your whole system), trying to guess where the “pop-out” button is (since the pop-out window seems to play OK). But no GOOD solution, yet.

A couple things are ironic:

- This release was supposed to “fix major problems”. But this is one it caused.

- A very similar problem with Firefox and YouTube was a problem a couple years ago, until Mozilla managed to fix it.

Best solution for now? If you still have IE7 or IE8 on your system, use that, for now, for YouTube, otherwise you could try to roll back your Firefox, but if you do, you need to shut off “auto-updates”, else it will just update you again without asking.
