Should a pregnant woman start dieting during pregnancy? This is a question that has raised many eyebrows due to the varied differences in opinions. Most health professionals will advise you to eat healthy and to refrain from dieting during pregnancy. For pregnant women who are at their proper weight, it is advisable to avoid any diets as to steer away from any complications that this may cause. Going on diets during pregnancy can deprive the unborn child of essential nutrients. Many are very conscious about their weight and they forget that they are actually expected to be bigger when they are pregnant. Surely, the fact that many birth defects are linked to the mother dieting is enough reason to rule out any type of dieting.
There are certain women that a doctor will advise to drop some excess weight. These are women who are overweight. These women are instructed by their physicians to lose some weight or at the very least remain their initial weight. For obese women, the best way to go is to try to lose some weight before even attempting to get pregnant, as this will prevent complications such as hypertension and gestational diabetes.
Trying fad dieting during pregnancy is highly discouraged. There are popular diets that tend encourage their followers to have a high protein diet and a low calorie intake. This type of diet is not good for the baby, as it has been linked to off springs having a high volume of stress in their older years. Eating a well-balanced meal three times a day is crucial when there is an unborn child involved. With the mother keeping herself healthy it ensures that the baby will also be healthy and develop as he or she should. Adding pre natal vitamins is another key element in staying in good health during the pregnancy.
If you want to watch your weight during the pregnancy, then the best approach is to consult the doctor. He or she will be able to give the proper advice. They can also give ideas on what types of food should and should not be consumed during a pregnancy.

Weight loss diet during pregnancy – please read details?
Though it is not conventional, my obstetrician put me on diabetic diet for this pregnancy. I am insulin resistent and overweight, and my doctor wants to prevent gestational diabetes. She said it is safe for me to lose weight for the entire pregnancy.

I can’t personally answer your question, as it does not apply to me. However, my best friend went through this with her first baby. She was overweight (has since had gastric bypass…). I know she didn’t gain ANY weight during her pregnancy and lost between 5-10 pounds, which doesn’t seem like a lot but she was pregnant so it was the equivalent of losing 30-35 pounds. Anyway, I know she ate VERY healthy. No soda, no sugary juices, no pizza or anything like that. She ate a lot of greens (salads) and snacked on nuts and fresh fruit. I know for her, the soda thing was really hard. Hang in there, it will probably be really hard to maintain a diet during pregnancy. Good luck

So why hasn’t that doctor offered you some pills to help with the diabetes you obviously have? Glucose resistance or intolerance and any reading consistently over 126 is diabetes and needs treatment more than just food plan.
You might try some cinnamon/chromium capsules and a lo-dose aspirin but I really think you need to go see an Endocrinologist.
Your weight will come off if you keep trying this food plan with no medications! Yes, diabetes in the early stages doesn’t result in weight loss, but for the long run it does indeed start melting your body away.
Now your veggies?? what veggies are you eating? potatoes? – NO! carrots? – NO! turnips? – NO! I like spinach leaves, broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, cabbage and for fruits I like tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, okra, avocados, apples
those atkins bars are totally nasty to my way of thinking. A candy bar tastes better and is the same grams of carbohydrate.
I never have any of the synthetic sweeteners.
When we fast, our livers decide we are in starvation mode and start the process to kick out a whole load of stored glucose – this is why your fasting testings are so high. Nothing that I know of can fix that problem, and believe me I have tried any recommendation: eating at 2 am, works but then that isn’t fasting either.
If your doctor thinks diabetes readings start at over 200, race to find a new doctor!!! Yours is hopelessly out of date, living in the 20th century!!
Exercise!! walk a minimum of one hour as fast as you can every blessed day!! Amazing what walking can do for weight loss! Mall, big box stores, museums, etc on really nasty weather days works.

Weight loss pills = Water weight.
And Don’t turn anorexic.
What you need to do is take your current weight(150-160 LBS) x 10 = 1,500-1,600 calories (for you), and 150-160 x 2 = 310ish. 310+1,500-1,600 = around 1800-1900 calories a day = take away around 500 so eat around 1300-1400 calories a day should make you lose 1-2 lbs per week.
Just exercise, and eat lower calories, youll be okay.

help!! i need detailed tips on quick weight loss!?
hi i am 17 years old 5’6 and 200 pounds. my goal is to weigh at least 170-180 by june which is my high school graduation. i have taken some steps already by cutting out junk foods and eating healthier. i am also taking fiberchoice weight management daily. i am thinking about walking up a hill everyday for 30 minutes as well. i really need some advice to accomplish my goal successfully!

Keep ready prepared raw veg in the fridge so it’s there when you feel like munching. Also try to have at least one serving with each meal. It’s best to try to make it more interesting by adding other ingredients. My personal favorites are:
Carrot Sticks with hummous
Lettuce with salsa (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it)
Mushrooms with sprinkled cheese
Tomatoes with pepper
So yummy, so simple, so healthy.
PS- Concerning one of the other answers, Special K is one of the worst cereals for you, so please do not listen to whoever suggested that (no offence Krin). Seriously. Go look at the sugar content- It’s absolutely loaded with it. It’s also higher in calories and salt than most other savory cereals like all-bran and shredded wheat. The whole healthy image is a scam

I have a couple of water bottles next to the couch.. each time I sit on the couch I pick them up and lift them up and down.
It is boring and it seems useless to do but if you get used to do it,., after just 20 minutes you will start sweating and your arm will get tired.
Just change arm and carry on, eventually it will become automatic and you might even want to progress to some dumbells, maybe a little bit heavier than the water bottle.
