Choosing And Locating A Feng Shui Fountain

Most people have seen a feng shui fountain, and many people are basically familiar with the term feng shui, but do not understand the concepts behind it or the benefits it can provide. Feng shui is a system that originated in ancient China, and its purpose is to create a living space that has a proper flow of positive qi, or energy. Qi is the defining idea behind many other Chinese medicinal practices and other systems, such as acupuncture and many martial arts forms.

The core idea behind feng shui is to design a living or working area so that it promotes positive energy which will in turn have good effects in your life. This is accomplished in part by balancing the five elements: metal, earth, fire, wood and water. Since most people don’t have ponds near their houses, a feng shui fountain is often used to fulfill the water role.

While a feng shui fountain can be an integral part of space’s flow, you don’t need to follow all of the concepts of feng shui to enjoy having a fountain. Many people like these fountains simply because they find the sound of water soothing and relaxing.

No matter your sense of style, there is a feng shui water fixture to fit it. Many people favor a classic Chinese design, while others like to have a more modern edge with western influences. Some people opt for truly wild abstract fountains. Fountains are available in a variety of sizes, as well. They range from huge outdoor fixtures to wall-hanging fountains to tiny fountains that will fit on a shelf or small table.

If you want to adhere to the proper feng shui principles, the placement of your feng shui water feature is of the utmost importance. The first rule is that the fountain should never be placed in your bedroom, as this is believed to bring more worry into your life. You should also avoid placing a feng shui fountain in a southern location of your home, as it conflicts with the natural energy (fire) of that space.

Instead, you should aim to place your feng shui fountain in either the northern, eastern, or southeastern sections of your space. The exact location depends on the type of energy that you’d like to promote in your life. A fountain placed in the north will channel qi toward your career, while locating one in a southeastern area may bring your more wealth and affluence. Finally, the element of water located in the east will support the health of you and your family.

A feng shui fountain is a great way to start channeling positive energy through your living space. But it’s just that – a start. There’s a lot more to this ancient Chinese art.
