How can i get protein?
Eating meals at college has been a bit of a challenge for me. I recently struggled with bulimia, in which i lost lots of my thick hair, so eating very healthily has been an important goal of mine, not only to get healthy again, but to get some more hair to grow back.
In my dining hall, there is very little meat available to eat, and the meat they have just looks very unappetizing. What other sources can I get protein from? Do you know of any other foods that are, in general, good for hair health and growth?
i don’t know much about hair health, or college food, but here are some foods that have protein:
eggs (5.5 g protein per large egg)
egg whites (not quite as much protein, and lower in calories, but it’s still 3.6 g protein per egg white)
yogurt (depends on the brand, but usually about 5 g protein, i think)
milk (8 g protein per cup of 2%)
beans (depends on the variety, but 1/2 cup black beans has nearly 8 g protein)
hummus (about 1 g protein per tbsp)
peanut butter (about 4 g protein per tbsp)
tofu (13 g protein per 1/4 block)
there’s also other stuff like protein bars and shakes and vegetarian meat replacements that you might not be able to get at your college, but here’s some information about them in case you can:
protein bars (a brand called pure protein has about 20 g per bar)
protein shakes (a bottle of ensure has 12 g protein)
vegetarian burgers (Boca burgers, for example, have about 13 g protein each)
vegetarian hot dogs (Smart Dogs have 9 g protein each)
that’s about all the protein sources i can think of. good luck!
