Internet Market’s Morn The Demise Of Yahoo Site Explorer
This week marked the end of Yahoo Site Explorer, as free tool that provided useful information to online marketers who were looking to assess the amount of back-links to their sites in order to rank higher in the search engines.
The explanation for its retirement was straightforward; with Yahoo’s search website results being served by Bing, the tool was no longer seen as topical although many online marketers might disagree. And with several similar services having sprung up since its inauguration in 2005, it was not the sole option either.
One SEO tool this has influenced is Market Samurai, which used Yahoo provided results to report on back links. Nevertheless Market Samurai is also able to provide information from Majestic SEO which are possibly much better, though any person totally utilising the Yahoo results up to now will have to wait till they have picked up enough data to allow them to make any judgement about trends.
The important areas in which Market Samurai is influenced are in the Rank Tracker report, which also provides info about PageRank and back links. Prior to Yahoo’s announcement users had the option of Yahoo provided backlink info or Majestic SEO, which provides Historical and Fresh information; and the SEO Competition module, which can supply an info on range of different SEO factors.
Apart from the quantity of backlinks, which are reported both to individual pages as well as the total to a domain, the other SEO factors that are reported include PR of pages listed in the top 10 results for Google, the amount of competing pages in Google’s results, and the amount of an internet site's pages that are indexed in Google. It also reports whether the top 10 results include the target keyword in the title, URL, outline, or any of the heading tags on the page.
While many online marketers may morn the loss of Yahoo Site Explorer the truth is it's that there were better tools for several years and will not truly be missed.
Why is my link PR8 in DMOZ and Page Rank 0 behind SEO Software?
I have a website of mine listed on DMOZ. I have heard a lot about DMOZ as it gives the website a very high authority link and Google like it.
When I look behind various backlink software I use it shows my DMOZ link as a Page Rank 0 yet when I click on that very link and it opens up the exact page my website is listed on it is a PR8.
Google Chrome SEO Plugin, SEO Firefox and the Google PR Tool all give it a PR8 yet according Majestic SEO it is only a PR0. Why is this?
I am curious to find out as I listed my website on there to achieve a high PR backlink.
I also said that do not worry about it, its just software error. If Google toolbar shows PR 8 for your website then its Amazing!
