Both Monavie and POM make a drink using the ascai berry. Monavie is $45 and POM $10 for the same amount. Why?

Monavie: The bulk of the selling price is because it’s a MLM (multi-level marketing) – a legal pyramid scheme.There is a lot of hype on sites by promoters of Monavie but nothing to clinically back up any of the claims. Even a spokesperson (therefore on it’s payroll) for it Earl Mindell, R.Ph., M.H., PhD. in his book, “Goji: The Himalayan Health Secret” spouts all sorts of claims and nothing is substantiated by any placebo-controlled double bind clinical trials and in fact any clinical research or valid studies.You can buy lycium berries (Lycium barbarum) in bulk herb stores at $7-$10 a pound. Good quality lycium berries are the SAME as sold as goji berries for a far higher price.So in reality the cost of product is probably very low. POM wonderful is marketed differently. Its not MLM so doesn’t inflate the price. The manufacturer of POM Wonderful (its principally pomegranite juice) hinted in ads that the drink could fight heart disease, premature aging, alzheimer’s disease, and cancer. An advertising industry watchdog group ruled those claims misleading. POM manufacturer has invested 20million $’s in research and have had some positive results. However, more carefully controlled studies(which are being undertaken)are needed to confirm. (search Google for sites) However, as recently seen, POM’s public image is soiled because of horrendously cruel lab experiments on some animals. You can buy Naked Juice, Frutzzo, Old Orchard, and Lakewood, delicious and healthy 100 percent pomegranate juice without harming a single animal.(and some prices are better)
