Multi-level marketing is often the first type of business that many new marketers think of when considering an online business. The idea doesn’t involve anything complicated. You join a company, as an affiliate, and then for every sale you receive a commission – simple. After all, why do the work yourself when your recruits can do it and make money for you? It’s important to your success to approach this as a serious and real business. It is not a hobby. This kind of business, or any kind really, is not meant to be treated as something you “maybe have time for” when it’s convenient. There’s a lot of history with MLM, and it shows that people who have the “hobby” mentality almost always fail. If you are serious and business-minded, you will become more skilled at marketing which will increase your odds for success. It’s just a known fact that business requires work and dedication, and if you do that then you’re likely to find success.
Also understand that MLM success requires the effort of a team of people. Listen and proceed with caution if anyone promises they can do easy sales in their first month, or even second one. Take notice of who is able to produce consistent sales of maybe a dozen or so each month. If a team member is experiencing a tough time during any month, you’ll be able to absorb it. It will require real time and work if you ever try to bring a power seller on board. But just keep in mind that any time spent on that campaign could be used to work with existing members to improve their performance.
The best practice with your associates is to be honest with them about everything. Avoid the ‘high dollar’ earnings hype for others. Let them know very simply and clearly that they have to put the work in if they ever hope to get anywhere. You’ll actually be doing them a favor by refusing to hype them about income. When that happens, you’ll be on the recruiting treadmill and spending all your time there. Be up front with the people you hire as part of your down line. MLM can be intimidating when you first start out. Some people do MLM because they initially thought it was easy money. But as you know, it takes time and a lot of work. This business is just like any other legitimate online business. If you’re willing to do what you need to do, those promises you heard in the beginning can come to pass.

We are struggling very hard financially. I work full time plus and he is un-employed. The hard part is he is one of these “Entrepreneurial” spirits. He has done Multi Level Marketing in the past and now he is caught up in these on-line marketing businesses.
I do understand and support his need to have success and financial freedom, after all it’s something we all would like to have in our lives and I understand not everything is a scam but he is NOT making any money right now. I try to talk to him about getting a job and he gets defensive and thinks I am just trying to bring him down but I am not.
How do I let him know I am on his side but don’t want to struggle like this?
